For those who feel like it’s still 2020, we have great news for you: it’s not! The year is officially 2022, and at Fun Services Midwest we are so thrilled for the months ahead. Obviously, there is January and February—a couple of darker months that still provide times to be creative. But before you know it, the sun will be shining and spring will be upon us! Until then, we’d like to discuss New Year’s Resolutions, Indoor Party Rentals, and a sad day in America known as Blue Monday.
Before we dive into each of those three items, we’d just like to say THANK YOU again for an incredible 2021. We had so much fun recapping the year in our December post, and look forward to sharing new moonwalk inflatable arrivals in the days to come.
Now let’s put all of last year’s “wins” on the shelf and discuss the hope and dreaming that comes this time every year! An appropriate question to begin: What are your New Year’s Resolutions?
The New Year’s Resolutions That Truly Matter
When we just asked you that question, you might have felt a few different things: surprise (“I haven’t thought of any resolutions yet!”), frustration (“Ugh why even bother setting resolutions each year—only to break them a few weeks later?”), or even annoyance (“Let’s just stop with the New Year’s Resolutions already.”). We wouldn’t blame you for any of those thoughts but also felt this post to be an opportunity to reframe New Year’s Resolutions.
What do we mean by “reframing” New Year’s Resolutions? Well, we believe a lot of people view resolutions as quantitative goals to reach which is definitely part of it. However, we think New Year’s resolutions should definitely begin, continue, and end with a qualitative mindset. What does this shift look like practically? Here are a few quantitative examples our society tends to set for ourselves:
- Lose 10lbs by the second quarter.
- Read 10 pages a day.
- Go to the gym three times a week.
- Eat vegetables with every dinner.
- Hang out with friends every weekend.
None of those resolutions are bad in themselves, but there is one glaring problem: we’re only human—and humans fail. When you set too big of goals for yourself, you might get too dejected when you fail to meet each of them. Therefore, consider resolutions this year that at least begin with a better mindset:
- Feel comfortable in my own skin.
- Read more than I did last year.
- Exercise regularly.
- Eat what I want, but mix in healthy items as well.
- Prioritize community with friends and family.
Once we begin with quality, we can then move to realistic quantities that help us achieve our goals. James Clear wrote a bestselling book called Atomic Habits that explains this theory of “smaller habits” that help us achieve our goals. For instance, maybe to achieve “Exercise regularly” in 2022 you move your running shoes by the front door—every time you walk out your front door, you’ll see those running shoes and be reminded to stay active! With that kind of a goal, you won’t be disappointed if you don’t lose “X” pounds and instead feel good about exercising regularly.
But it’s the last bullet point we want to focus on moving forward: prioritizing the community/communities we live in.
How Indoor Party Rentals Bring the Best Worlds Together
Society just got done prioritizing all the best (and most delicious) centerpieces. Both Thanksgiving and Christmas mean families around the dinner table eating turkey, ham, and all kinds of sides worth savoring. (There’s a reason “exercise” is so high on everyone’s New Year’s Resolutions list).
There’s also a reason everyone loves coming around the table together: a fantastic centerpiece.
Where the food is just what brings people together, Fun Services Midwest offers a different kind of centerpiece year-round: inflatable rentals and other items to enjoy with friends and family. It’s not too different from inviting others over for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner! All you need to do is set the table, and lucky for you, we are experts at party planning.
As for the remainder of winter, indoor party rentals are the name of the game. Instead of the unrealistic quantitative goal (“Hang out with friends every weekend.”) consider the qualitative goal (“Prioritize community with friends and family.”) and how maybe just a few big events a year are great! What might those events be for you this winter or spring?
- Indoor party rentals for your child’s school gathering.
- Casino party games for your office happy hour.
- Inflatable moonwalk at your church or gym for a birthday party.
The list goes on! Our only hope is that you take the next best step to secure a centerpiece for your momentous occasion. Remember, the goal is community which is important for multiple reasons, but especially once Blue Monday rolls around.
How to Combat Blue Monday
We know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but have you ever heard of “Blue Monday”? We aren’t going to spend long on the topic (because we are FUN Services Midwest, after all), but it’s worth mentioning—Blue Monday is known as the third Monday in January for a few reasons. 1) It’s one of the darkest weather days in America, 2) many of those unrealistic New Year’s Resolutions have failed by then, and 3) there is financial debt after Christmas.
We encourage you and your community to combat Blue Monday by getting together this winter! Smiling faces around a quality centerpiece can cure a lot—why should we leave those two things to November and December each year? January and February can be great as well. And we’d love to help you make memories in those two months and beyond in 2022.
