Fun and Unique Activities for Your Next Family Reunion

Man and women hugging each other | Fun Services Midwest

Have a family reunion on the horizon? Getting the entire family all in one place is no easy feat, and it’s a priceless opportunity to reconnect with those we love! By making the event more than a simple barbeque or picnic and planning fun activities everyone can enjoy together, you’ll make it a memorable and enjoyable experience — so enjoyable that even crotchety old Uncle Joe will be asking when the next one will be!

Here are some creative ideas for family reunion activities that will make everyone wish they were part of your family:

Family Trivia

It’s time to find out how well everyone knows each other! Create a trivia game that pits family members against each other in an effort to prove who has the most familial knowledge. Fill a raffle drum with quiz questions, or assign topics like Marriage, Children, Work, or even Middle Names to different colors on a Color Wheel.

Here are some examples:

  • What year did Aunt Betty and Uncle Bob get married?
  • What does Cousin Jack do for a living?
  • Who wanted to be a rocket scientist when they grew up?
  • What is Freddy’s middle name?

PRO TIP: Split the teams into the different immediate families to make it more challenging. That way, no one will have an advantage of relatives across different parts of the family to easily fill in the blanks!

Dunk Tank

Dunk tanks are always fun for lots of laughs and memories. You’ll need some volunteers to make this one happen—no, you can’t force that relative you don’t get along with into participating just to get revenge! But those who do participate will have a blast, whether they’re risking their life in the tank or trying to soak their parent or child!

Obstacle Course

You can create all kinds of obstacle courses that challenge family members to either race each other to the finish or pair up to take on a course as a three-legged race. For some added “wow” factor, choose one of our inflatable obstacle courses to act as the centerpiece for the whole event! These can make racing your opponent much safer with all the soft padding of the inflated course, plus the little ones will have a blast crawling around the course after the big kids work out their competitive streak.

Moonwalk Dance Party

A moonwalk (also known as a bounce house) is a great tool to have at any party or event where children will be in attendance. It gives them something fun to do and a place to channel all that youthful energy while the adults are playing some of the more complicated games that the kids can’t join. Blast some exciting party music and let kids of all ages—and maybe even the grown-ups—dance the night away! Our Disco Dome is literally made for bouncing dance parties, by the way! A little dance party makes for an unforgettable big reunion!

Mini Carnival

Instead of having a schedule of planned events and activities, you can go more casual with your family reunion and set up zones that everyone can move between throughout the day. Create a micro-carnival for one of the zones by setting up a few popular carnival games, and a prize table for winners. Some crowd-pleasers include:

Family Stories

When the evening is winding down and everyone is feeling cozy and nostalgic, light a campfire and gather around to share family stories. These can be funny stories or fond memories with other family members, or they can be entertaining moments from the day if your reunion is large enough that not everyone was together the whole time. To make sure everyone is included, encourage family members to come to the reunion with a few favorite stories ready to share. And no storytime is complete without some freshly-popped popcorn
