Momentum stays high in the first semester, with back-to-school excitement and all the fun holidays that fall brings. But keeping students engaged and motivated in the sprint through spring gets a little tougher. That makes it a great season to fill with school events and early spring parties that break up the monotony and remind students why they like school!
Whether you’re planning a PTO Fundraiser, a student engagement event, or a party to celebrate a unique spring holiday, let Fun Services be your guide to making memories in 2026!
Why Do Schools Need Fun Events in the Spring?
Spring can be a hard time for kids and teens. The hype of the holidays is over, and what lies ahead can feel like a long and stressful road to summer break. High schoolers are starting to face the pressure of pending graduation, who they’re going to ask to prom, and prepping for finals week. Elementary students are feeling cooped up and wanting to get outside, but the weather is still spotty, and they’re still spending six or more hours a day in a classroom!
Tips for Springtime School Events That Go Off Without a Hitch
A great way for schools to combat spring fever is to pad out the academic calendar with fun school events and celebrations. It’s all about giving students something to look forward to! There is no wrong answer here: if the event is student-focused and gets them excited, you’re doing it right. Here are a few tips to make your early spring parties FUN-tastic.
1. Know Your Goals
We’re all for partying for partying’s sake, but even the most spontaneous and vaguely themed “spring fling” should have some sort of goal to give it purpose. Your springtime school event might be:
- A PTO Fundraiser
- A community service event
- A holiday celebration
- Or even just an opportunity for students to have fun!
Whatever the goal, make sure your planning committee is on board so every other decision has the right focus!
2. Make Your Event Theme Unique
“Spring” can be a theme, but a little creativity can take your school event to new heights! If you’re going to throw a springtime event for your school that’s worth the hype, give students something to get hyped about. From unique holidays to awareness months to timeless party themes, here are ideas to get your party senses tingling:
- Indoor Carnival: Pack out the gymnasium with carnival games! Have students purchase tickets to play the games, with proceeds to benefit classroom needs.
- Sports Send-Off: Does your school boast any teams competing regionally this spring? Send them off in style with a celebration themed around their sport! Picture a pep rally with a punch!
- Football Field Movie Night: Fall football may be behind us, but there’s still fun to be had on the field. Students can bring their blankets (and don’t forget the popcorn machine!), and join their class out on the football field to experience the big screen like never before! Bonus points if you screen Remember the Titans or add some football-themed games. You can make it a family night in the evening too.
- STEM Fair: Remind students why learning can be fun! Put together a fair full of fun and educational STEM activities, like building a toothpick bridge or making a potato battery.
- Blackout Dance: With glow-in-the-dark paint and glow sticks, this dance theme is always a hit! Add some really cool light-up games like our new Football Bowling for those who are feeling shy about the dance floor.
3. Have Audience-appropriate Activities
Planning an event for an elementary school should look very different from throwing a high school bash. And holding an event for all ages makes it even more complicated! Still, one thing that always resonates with any age is fun inflatable party rentals (because what teenager doesn’t have fond memories of the bounce house at their best friend’s birthday party?).
Fun Services offers inflatable fun for every age. Preschoolers and younger elementary kids love our crawlthroughs and classic moonwalks. As students get into the later elementary years, our obstacle courses are the perfect leveled-up challenge. And once middle school and high school hit, we’ve still got them covered with competitive inflatables like bungee runs and Guardian’s Galaxy!
4. Be Prepared for Weather Changes!
Springtime weather in Kansas City and St. Louis can change quickly — you never know when the storm’s going to hit! So it’s wise to have a plan B if you’re planning an outdoor event. Fortunately for most schools, there is a nice, large event space readily available: the gymnasium! Ensure the gym will be available during the same time frame as your outdoor event, so you can make a quick pivot if the skies turn cloudy.
